Will I get training?
Yes, you will be provided with training through our online portal, where you will have compulsory training modules to complete prior to being able to complete a volunteering activity or book onto a shift for an event. The training required will be different depending on the role you have applied for and may include webinars. There will also be optional training modules that you may choose to complete at your leisure.
Do I get my expenses paid?

No, you do not need to be a member of SongBird Survival to volunteer with us. We are grateful for any support we receive.
How often do I need to volunteer?
This depends on the role you are applying for, many of our roles will be flexible if they are education-based roles. Please check the volunteer role profile under ‘Where, when and how often’ for more information on this.
I don’t know anything about songbirds, can I still help?
Yes. You don’t need to be a birding expert to be able to get involved and volunteer. Volunteering is also a fantastic opportunity to learn more about wildlife and nature and develop new skills through our training. Some roles might need more knowledge than others, but you might have other skills which would greatly contribute to our mission! Are you a keen fundraiser, administrator or event planner? We welcome people from all backgrounds and experiences to volunteer with us.
Will volunteering affect my benefits?
No, volunteering does not affect what benefits you receive as long as you still meet the conditions to receive those benefits. We would recommend you contact your benefits advisor to let them know when you start volunteering.
Can I volunteer with a criminal conviction?
We strive to equal opportunities for all, but due to the nature of some of the volunteer opportunities, this would depend on the nature of your criminal conviction. Some roles may not be open to you, but there are others which may be available for you to apply for. Please contact volunteering@songbird-survival.org.uk for more information.
